The use of solar thermal collectors in single family and multi-family houses is the most common and widespread application worldwide. The solar heat is used for domestic hot water, space heating or to heat swimming pools. If there is a high solar radiation throughout the year, solar water haeters can cover 100% of the domestic hot water demand
A big potential for the use of solar water heating can be found in the commercial and services sector (hotels, laundries, restaurants, sports centres, airports etc.) as well as the agricultural sector. The solar heat can be used for the supply of hot water for general use and for washing and cleaning.
Solar process heat has great potential for solar thermal applications. The most suitable processes that can be found in various industries are preheating of raw materials, pasteurization, sterilization, washing, drying, boiler feed water and the supply of hot water in industrial buildings.
